Understanding the Chakra System and what is it

Let’s talk energy. I was introduced to the Chakra System back in 2016. At first, it felt overwhelming, not gonna lie. But as the years passed, I came back to it with fresh eyes — and found it to be a deeply insightful tool for inner alignment, a compass to life’s path.

But what are the Chakras?

The word Chakra means spinning wheel in Sanskrit. These “wheels” aren’t literal, but metaphorical centers of energy located along your spine (your main channel) — from the base to the crown of your head. Each chakra corresponds to specific parts of your body, emotions, and life stages. When your energy flows freely through these channels, you feel more balanced. When blockages exist — often due to trauma, emotional or physical pain, or stress — you may feel stuck or out of sync.

A brief chakra overview:
You might have heard about the Chakras and their correlation with colors, sounds, frequencies or/and developmental stages of life. In this post, I am going to be brief, since this is just a complex system.

There are seven major energy centers or Chakras in our bodies that run along the spine (the main energy center – Sushumna). Starting from the base of your spine all the way to the crown of your head. See below an illustration of the energy wheels

Put it into practice:

— The exploration of the Chakras could start with the physical aspect, for some people it might be more tangible to initiate this with yoga postures. Every Yoga pose is linked to a chakra (or more than one) in our body.

— Another way of experiencing the Chakras could be through meditation. In case you already have a meditation practice well established, specific meditations that guide you through the energy channels can enhance the balance in that area.

— Documenting your lifetime can also be a powerful way to see past patterns and how they shaped you as a human being. We all have different backgrounds and identifying cycles or periods in your life since you were young, could open doors for exploration and understanding how each specific chakra was affected. This is a more in-depth practice that requires time and perhaps an assistance from a professional could be helpful.

Questions to reflect and tool inventory
I invite you to reflect and write about the tools you’ve already gathered in life for personal growth.

Are there areas where you could use more tools?
Are you realizing you have what you need, and simply need to trust yourself more?

Be curious about yourself.
Be honest with what’s working — and what’s not.
And most of all…

Be love.
Be bold.
Be you.
