The Vishuddha Chakra, or Throat Chakra, is the fifth of the seven main chakras, located at the center of the throat. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word vishuddha, meaning “pure” or “purification,” reflecting its role as the seat of authentic expression and truth. Associated with the ether element and the color blue, it governs communication, self-expression, and our ability to speak and listen with clarity and integrity. A balanced Vishuddha brings confidence in one’s voice, honest expression, and the courage to share one’s truth; when blocked, feelings of inhibition, difficulty communicating, or a sense of being unheard tend to arise.
Developed during 7 – 12 years old
Represented by the blue color and the ether element, and it is located on your throat area and shoulder/ear level area
Enhances: self-expression, compassionate listening, and deep communication
This is more about the truth rather than your voice, but it does reflect on both. And when this chakra is open is more about what you communicate, because that is your truth and how you communicate is just a channel for sharing your truth.
When is overactive: oversharing, poor listening skills, tendency to interrupt
When is under active: suppressed expression, repressed, timid
When is in balance: clear & effective communication, the ability to speak truth
How to work with this Chakra?
Every Chakra has its particularity, and one of the ways to work with the material that we are offering here is with a centering meditation followed by journaling prompts. Here area few examples to journal about:
How do I communicate in conflict and are there any places I want to grow in this specifically?
Where do I crave more authenticity in my life?
Do I keep my word? Do I say things I do not mean?
How can I be more impeccable with my word?
Was there any time you struggled to tell the truth? What were you afraid would happen if you did?
